Norwegian Salmon Farming to Launch in Georgia
Norwegian salmon farming will be launched in Kobuleti town on the coast of the Black Sea, which will produce ecologically clean sea food with new technologies.
On February 3rd the Norwegian company Green Sea Food’s representative, Steiner Gravas and the Minister of Agriculture, Otar Danelia, signed a memorandum which includes three phases of the project. The first is a pilot, the second being the production of the project and the final stage will be the distribution and export.
Green Sea Food’s representative Steinar Gravas stated during the meeting that they had the same project proposal from Kazakhstan, Armenia and Russia, but decided that Georgia was the priority for the project implementation.
“Georgia's geographic location and water resources, rivers, lakes and the sea, are very favorable for the development of aquaculture. Thus, Georgia is the best place for the fish production. Georgia is situated in the center of the Silk Road which is the additional priority in terms of export. After implementing the project, it will be possible to export products to many countries,” said Gravas.
According to him, the first stage of the project aims to introduce and develop new technologies of fish production without polluting the environment.
