Handbags with Light – Stylish Innovation by Georgian Students
TBILISI - The idea is theirs, they manage this small business themselves and in the future they plan to broaden their production.
Keti Ubilava and Natia Mgeladze got the idea of making handbags a few months ago. With leather and wood these girls began to produce their first models for women and recently they added a new, very interesting function to those bags – lighting. In the future, the authors of this new enterprise plan to develop men’s segment as well.
Keti and Natia make their bags at the Ilia State University’s FabLab laboratory and they also use techno-park.
Materials and Timing
What distinguishes our bags from others is that we make our production from natural leather and natural wood (sometimes we use leather substitute though). Engraving is an important factor too. Besides, we added a new and very interesting function – lighting, which gives the owner the possibility to find things in the bag in dark conditions. Usually, a new bag is ready a week after receiving an order.
Why Leather and Wood?
Most of the products made at FabLab are of wood. So, when we began to work there, we thought of something that would be possible to make of wood. Then, suddenly, we realized that it was possible to use wood in bags, because together with leather it makes a nice combination. Additionally, we knew that there were no such bags in Georgian market. So we are pioneers in this respect.
Combination of business and studies
We study at the business administration department of Ilia State University. Nowadays, we think we already have enough knowledge to begin our own enterprise and we spare no energy and time to achieve success. At first we found it difficult to combine our business with studies but there is always a way out. Overtime, the situation becomes more controllable and if you use your time efficiently, nothing is impossible.
