Georgia’s Prison Inmates Will be Able to Sell Their Products

TBILISI – Georgia’s prison inmates will be able to sell products that they have personally produced or manufactured, according to planned changes to the country’s penal code and supported by the finance and budget committee.

Deputy Corrections Minister Tamar Khulordava explained that a current inmate who works individually and under the supervision of the prison warden has the right to sell their products via online sales.

Money received from the sales will be directly credited to the individual’s personal bank account. Khulordava said more specific rules regarding the inmates’ activities will be determined later in the year.

In addition to the correctional board, the initiative has the backing of Georgia’s Human Rights Committee.
