Georgian Company Plans to Export LED Bulbs

TBILISI – Georgia’s AG Microelectronics company plans to export energy efficient LED light bulbs, Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said during a visit the company’s manufacturing plant factory in the country’s industrial hub Rustavi.

The factory began producing energy efficient light bulbs in October 2015 and currently makes 20,000 different capacity bulbs per month and sold on the domestic consumer market.

The company plans to annually produce 1 million export quality light bulbs during its next stage of development.

Georgia’s first locally produced of LED TVs will appear on the market from 1 May, with sales intended for the export market.

AG Microelectronics is a $3 million Georgian-Azeri joint venture and the first microelectronic enterprise in the Caucasus region. The company has also received state funding from the government’s Produce in Georgia program.

AG Microelectronics' production ranges from small household electronic equipment to high-tech manufacturing and measurement equipment.

The company currently employs 50 people

According to Energy Ministry, replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient LED light bulbs will enable the country to annually save about 10 billion KWh of electricity in 20 years, which is 500 million KWh.
