Georgian Wine Participates in Foodex Japan Exhiition
TOKYO, Japan - The 41th International Food and Beverage Exhibition FOODEX JAPAN 2016 is being held in Tokyo, Japan. Eight Georgian wine producing companies are participating with the support of the National Wine Agency and the Georgian Embassy in Japan.
During the opening day, the Georgian wine companies received awards they had won at Japan’s third annual Sakura Women’s Wine Awards 2016, held in February. Nine brands of Georgian wine won a double gold, 4 gold and 4 silver medals at Sakura competition.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia in Japan, Levan Tsintsadze and the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili.
“Georgian wine export to Japan has great potential. As well as the East-Asian region, Japan is a growing export market for Georgian wine. FOODEX JAPAN is the most important exhibition of agricultural products in Japan, including in wine segment. With the support of National Wine Agency, Georgian wine companies will also be presented in Japan’s another large-scale exhibition ‘Wine & Gourmet Show’, which to be held in April, in Tokyo,” said Samanishvili.
FOODEX JAPAN is held since 1976 and is one of the large scaled exhibitions in Asia. There are 80 countries presented at the exhibition this year, attended by tens of thousands of wine importers, professionals and amateurs.
In 2015, 138 290 bottles of wine were exported from Georgia to Japan, which is 5% higher than export in 2014.
