Construction of Gardabani Thermal Power Station Planned for 2017
TBILISI – Construction of Georgia’s USD 190 million Gardabani 2 thermal power plant is set to begin in 2017, according to the station’s official announcement.
The 240 MW of installed capacity at the power plant will have similar technical characteristics as the combined cycle thermal power plant in Gardabani.
According to the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, six international companies expressed interest in building Gardabani 2, but their identities have not yet been made public.
Leading Turkish company CALIK ENERJI built the first Gardabani power plant. It currently generates 1.6 billion kWh of electricity, nearly twice the amount as Georgia's gas-fired thermal power plants.
