New Blueberry Crops to be Planted in western Georgian Region

TBILISI – A new field of blueberry gardens will be planted Georgia’s Black Sea Adjara region later this spring.

According to BPI (Business Political Insights) news portal, Adjarian beneficiary Davit Tsenteradze received 57,946 GEL in funding under the Agricultural Projects. Management Agency’s ‘Plant the Future’ program to plant blueberries on 4.5 ha land and to install irrigation system.
According to recent data, more than 6.9 million GEL was allocated for creating new orchards and installing irrigation systems on 1,357 hectares of land.

Launched in 2015, the main goal of the Plant for the Future program is to decrease the volume of imports and increase the use of arable land in Georgia’s municipalities (except Tbilisi, Rustavi, Batumi, Kutaisi and Poti), enabling farmers and businessmen to create higher quality products.

The farmers who decide to create perennial plant orchards and nursery gardens receive both financial and technical support from the government.

Plant for the Future’s two independent components - perennial gardens and nursery gardens - will be co-financed. The potential beneficiaries may take advantage of both components of the program, according to the established rules and conditions.

The program plans to spend 5 million GEL in 2016 to carry out the Plant for the Future project, which aims to create 30-40 high quality nursery gardens, using modern standards on 1000 – 1200 ha land.
