Biosafety Lab in Marneuli Receives ISO Rating

MARNEULI, Georgia – The International Organization for Standardization provided Georgia’s Marneuli Laboratory with its 17025 classification for testing and calibration.

The facility is Georgia’s leading facility for diagnosing animal diseases caused by particularly dangerous pathogens including brucellosis, anthrax, mastitis and Newcastle disease.

"It is very important to control the health of animals on a regular basis. The laboratory serves seven municipalities in the Kvemo Kartli region…it can also take part in laboratory studies conducted at border crossing points in Vakhtangisi, Red Bridge, Sadakhlo and Guguti during high risk periods,” Georgia’s Agriculture Ministry said in a press release.

With support from the US, the Georgian government in 2015 built a new section of the laboratory equipped with modern material and technology that brought the complex up to tier-2 biosecurity levels.

The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency has renovated eleven laboratory buildings across Georgia and equipped them with international standard technology.
