Georgia’s External Merchandise Trade Up 3% in Q1 2016

TBILISI – According to data supplied by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) the country’s External Merchandise Trade (excluding non-organized trade) amounted to USD 4070 million (8628 million GEL) in January-May; a 3 per cent year-on-year increase.

Year-on-year export values decreased by 12 per cent to USD 780 million (1653 million GEL), import totals grew by 8 per cent to USD 3290 million (6974 million GEL).

Geostat’s figures showed that Georgia’s trade deficit totalled USD 2.5 million (5.3 million GEL) or 62 per cent of the overall trade turnover.
