A Georgian Citizen Listed Among Dead In Nice Terror Attack

TBILISI – Georgia’s Ambassador to France Eka Siradze-Delone confirmed Monday that a 56-year-old Georgian man was killed in the July 14 terrorist attack in Nice that killed 84 people.

Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Roman Ekmaliani – who had lived in Belgium for the past several years – was killed in the attack. The Ministry said Ekmaliani’s family had already been informed of his death and offered condolences on behalf of the Georgian government.

Ekmaliani was married to an unidentified French woman who was also killed in the attack.

A 31-year-old Tunisian resident of France, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, drove a heavy truck into a crowd of people on July 14 as they watching a parade celebrating France’s main national holiday - Bastille Day.

In addition to the 84 killed, 303 people were injured in the attack, including many children.
