Georgian Wine Exports Increase by 42% in 2016
TBILISI – The National Wine Agency reports that 23,932,067 bottles of wine have been exported from Georgia to 44 countries around the world since January, a 42 per cent increase from the same period last year.
The Agency valued the total number of exports at USD 55.3 million, a 16 per cent year-on-year increase.
The top importers of Georgian are Russia with 12,748,273 bottles, up 50 per cent rise compared to last year; Ukraine with 2,595,947 bottles, a 72 per cent increase; and China with 2,475,557 bottles, a massive 152 per cent rise.
A significant rise in the number of exports was also seen in Belarus – 122 per cent (575,166 bottles) and Kyrgyzstan – 107 per cent (163,966 bottles).
Brandy also saw a significant 32 per cent year-on-year increase, as 4,303,645 bottles were exported to 16 countries worldwide. The agency valued the total number of exports at USD 9.9 million.
The value of Georgia’s alcohol exports amounted to USD 92.3 million in the first half of the year, up from USD 70.7 million in the first half of 2015.
