First Vice-Speaker of Parliament Criticises US Supreme Court

Manana Kobakhidze, the first Vice-Speaker of Parliament, has made clear her disapproval of the US Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage and labeled it a 'big mistake.' "If we remain alone, all our friends, partners and allies stand against us I will keep saying that to legalize same-sex marriage is a big mistake, made by the government. I am only saying this about the state and the legislators," wrote Kobakhidze on her facebook page. The US Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 in favor of same sex marriage in all 50 states on Friday, 26 June. The US President Barack Obama called the decision a "victory for America."
Despite spurring severe criticism, the aforementioned decision was met with high praise by many people around the world. Facebook even introduced a special feature to encourage people to celebrate, through which, numerous individuals in many countries (including Georgia) painted their profile pictures in rainbow colors, showing their support of the LGBT community. Google, Apple and most of the other multinational corporations also joined the celebration, while many well-known celebrities sent out supporting tweets on the social media platform.
