Georgian Railways to Purchase 28 New Locomotives

TBILISI - Georgian Railways and major Chinese Corporation CRRC have signed an agreement for the purchase of 28 new locomotives.

The two sides did not specify when the locomotives will enter into service, but they are expected to see the light of day in the coming years.

CRRC and Georgia’s BMI Partners and AS Group 1990 are believed to have invested USD 20 million in the purchase of the railway engines.

The deal represents another sign that Georgia's main investors are increasingly coming in from the East as European and American businesses have reduced their once robust footprint in Georgia and are being replaced by major investors from China, Russia and the Gulf States
