Election Commission Report Says Georgian Dream Has Commanding Lead
TBILISI- Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) reported that with 83.55 per cent of the precincts reporting from 3,045 of the 3,702 national polling stations as of 2:00 pm local time, the ruling Georgian Dream party has so far received 49.26 per cent of the vote, while the main opposition United National Movement is currently in second with 26.46 per cent.
According to the CEC’s results, Georgian Dream majoritarian candidates are leading in Mtskheta, Sagarejo, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Zestafoni.
The ultranationalist, pro-Russian Patriotic Alliance currently sits third with exactly 5 per cent of the vote.
Former Defense Minister Irakli Alasania’s Free Democrats with 4.58 per cent, the Labor Party at 3.12 per cent and parliamentary speaker David Usupashvili’s Republican Party with 1.55 per cent are all well below the 5 per cent threshold needed to enter the new government.
The largest concentration of polling stations that still need to report is concentrated in the western Adjara region, where votes from 166 precincts have yet to be counted.
