Tbilisi - Ashkhabad Direct Flights to Be Launched as Part of Growing Cooperation
Twice weekly flights from Tbilisi to Ashkhabad are to be launched from the beginning of November.
The Boeing-737 and Boeing-757 aircrafts will fly every Wednesday and Sunday following an agreement reached between the two countries in June, when a memorandum of cooperation between the aviation authorities of Georgia and Turkmenistan was signed.
The agreement enables the two parties to have direct flights not only to the capitals of Georgia and Turkmenistan, but to any other direct destinations within the territories of both countries.
The first steps towards mutual cooperation were made during the official visit of Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia, to Ashkhabad in 2014.
Today, the two countries cooperate in principle in petroleum trade areas, while this year, Georgia offered Turkmenistan the use of Georgian sea ports for the transportation of goods to Europe.
