Belarusian Journalists Check out Georgia’s Interior Ministry Reforms

TBILISI – Journalists from Belarus television and print media, having expressed interest in the implemented reforms and projects of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), visited Georgia to get acquainted with the MIA system.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Shalva Khutsishvili hosted the delegation of journalists from Belarus on Wednesday.

At the meeting, Khutsishvili discussed the work specifics of the various MIA departments, projects planned at the agency and priority directions.

The journalists were particularly interested in implemented and ongoing reforms and especially in the newly established Joint Operations Center which was opened on October 4, in Rustavi, Kvemo Kartli region, and which represents a centralized technology hub for the agency.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also informed his Belarusian guests about the new project ‘Safe city, safe region, safe country’, launched on the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili, which is being implemented by the Joint Operations Center (JOC) main office and its branch.

“Within the frames of the project, installation of smart cameras with video analytical programs is planned in pre-defined areas across the whole country. The cameras will be connected to the JOC and monitored by video-analytical programs there,” the Deputy Minister told the reporters, adding that the project aims to increase high technology role in police activities and improve crime prevention in real-time.

At the end of the meeting the guests had an opportunity to see patrol police vehicles and special patrol equipment at the MIA.

The Belarusian journalists also visited the Operative Response Center 112.
