UNICEF Celebrates 70th Anniversary at Karvasla

TBILISI - Christmas decorations handmade by children with disabilities, a performance from the Movement Theater and a children's para-orchestra were all part of the UNICEF’s 70 year anniversary celebration held at the Museum of Tbilisi History yesterday.

“It’s a pleasure to be here together as we mark 70 years since the founding of UNICEF. The hope of the world rests in its coming generations. Over these seven decades, UNICEF has worked with governments, partners, civil society organizations, religious leaders, business communities and many others to bring hope to every child,” said Laila Omar Gad, UNICEF representative of Georgia.

In attendence were the first Lady of Georgia Maka Chichua, representatives of the Georgian government and members of parliament, amongst others.

The UN General Assembly founded UNICEF (United Nation’s Children Fund) in December 1946 to safeguard the lives of children struggling to survive the aftermath of World War II. Ever since its foundation, the ultimate goal of the organization has been the support of every child in need: protecting their rights, and fighting child poverty, discrimination and inequality.
