Body of Missing Tiger Found
The body of the tiger, missing since the June 13 flood, was found on the territory of the Laguna Vere swimming pool, in storage facilities, this morning, announced Tbilisi City Hall’s Press Office.
Georgian authorities had been looking for the tiger since June 13, when a disastrous flood hit Tbilisi. The flood killed 20 people.
The water, which covered many of the low-lying enclosures, allowed some wild animals, including tigers, to escape into the streets of the Georgian capital. and a number of animals when the surge of water entered the zoo territory.
While some, including Begi the hippo, were recaptured, a number of animals had to be put down in the name of citizen safety during a control operation conducted by government forces the day and night after the flood.
The search for other escaped wild animals intensified on June 17 when a white tiger that had escaped from the zoo during flooding attacked and killed a man before being shot by government forces.
The tiger found today was the last wild animal unaccounted for.
