Mathematical Institute Collapses in Central Tbilisi, Kills Four

Several floors of the Mathematical Institute located on Apakidze street behind the Sports Palace collapsed earlier today, killing four people.
The Special security and Emergency Management Agency claim that the four people who died in the collapse were workers who were dismantling the building. Three died at the time of the collapse while a fourth person was taken to hospital with injuries and died shortly after.

According to the same Agency, the building collapsed in the early afternoon. Locals claim the building had recently been privatized and the owner was planning to build a hotel in its place.

Georgia’s Interior Ministry launched an investigation into the incident according to Article 240 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which refers to violation of security regulations while conducting construction or other kinds of work.
