Austrian Parliament Ratifies EU-Georgia Association Agreement
The Austrian National Council (Parliament) has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
Yesterday, a majority of the Austrian National Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee voted in favor of ratification of the Association Agreements of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine with the EU.
Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the issue of ratification was presented to the Austrian Parliament by Claudia Durchschlag, a member of the Austrian People's Party.
Austria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Sebastian Kurz attended the ratification process and delivered a speech yesterday.
In his speech, he underlined the great importance of Georgia-Austria cooperation and noted that the Association Agreement would strengthen this relationship.
The AA deal was signed by Georgia and the EU on June 27 in Brussels last year.
Following the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which ratified the Georgia-EU agreement earlier this week, Austria becomes the 23rd country of the 28 EU member states to ratify the Georgia-EU Association Agreement.
