Heavy Snowfall in Georgia

Three days of heavy snowfall caused electricity shortages, transport restrictions, and delays in the regions of Georgia, leaving locals without electricity in Batumi, Adjara and Ozurgeti, Guria. Crews are working intensely to clear the roads in these areas.

Yesterday, flights were delayed from the Kutaisi and Batumi airports.

Transport restrictions are in place for trailers, trucks, and buses on the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze road. No vehicles are allowed on the Zigdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Ladzili road. Due to the danger of an Avalanche, restrictions apply to all vehicles on Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri roads. Nakerala path is currently closed due to heavy snow in Racha. On Vaziani-Telavi and on Akhaltsikhe-Ninotsminda roads only vehicles with with anti-skid chains are allowed.

Forecasts say temperatures will remain low in Georgia until the beginning of February.
