Kakheti Listed Among 11 Great Wine Regions to Discover
A recent CNN web article by Adrienne Jordan--a travel writer for the publications like USA Today and National Geographic Traveler--lists the Kakheti region of Georgia, among the 11 most beautiful wine regions and says it’s not to be missed.
“Recent years have seen new or lesser-known vineyards produce outstanding vintages that are redrawing the wine map” She says, noting that Kakheti is one of the world’s oldest winemaking regions. She writes that its tradition of wine production dates back to 6000 BC, which has earned it a place on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
“Rather than producing wine in wooden barrels or steel containers, Georgian-grown grapes ferment in clay jars known as qvevri. The resulting sweet taste is pleasing and distinct from the usual palate of Western wines.” - The author of the article says, calling Kakheti a destination yet to be discovered by many. The list also includes: the Inle Lake region, Myanmar; Brda, Slovenia; Douro Valley, Portugal; Okanagan Wine region, Canada; the Finger Lakes region, New York; Franschhoek, South Africa; Tenerife, Canary Islands; Marche, Italy; Healdsburg, California; and Door County, Wisconsin.
