Minister of Economy of Georgia Boosting Partnership Potential at Business Forum in Istanbul
Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Economics and Sustainable Development of Georgia, addressed the participants of the Georgia Turkey Azerbaijan Business Forum in Istanbul, Turkey. He stressed that the cooperation between these three countries is an excellent example of how neighboring countries can work together for their mutual benefit. “It’s important to the Georgian government that Turkish companies and companies from Azerbaijan fully benefit from the investment possibilities our country has to offer,” Gakharia said, going on to mention the successful operations of a number of companies from Azerbaijan and Turkey in Georgia. Investments from these two countries alone exceed $1.5 billion for the last five years.
During the forum, Gakharia met with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan and the Minister of Science, Technology, and Industry of Turkey to discuss strengthening economic cooperation in the region. He remarked that, “it is vital that neighboring countries cooperate to maximize their economic potential, and develop more quickly.”
Gakharia and Azerbaijan’s Shahin Mustafaye discussed tourism at their meeting, more specifically the possibility of creating tourist routes between Georgian and Azerbaijan, linking the most attractive tourist destinations of the two countries.
The Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was responsible for sending Georgian delegates to the business forum in Istanbul to explore the possibilities for the three countries to cooperate on railways, tourism, and pharmaceuticals among other things.
