Georgia to Start Energy Efficiency Projects in 2022
Under a European Commission initiative, Georgia will launch energy efficiency construction projects by 2022, both for public and for private buildings.
The topic was discussed during a meeting last week between officials from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and an EU delegation headed by Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director General of the European Commission Directorate General, Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
Georgia has already signed an energy community protocol and taken steps to become aligned to the European directives on energy efficiency in construction, in accordance with the directive’s standards.
“Implementation of energy efficiency projects will help to lower energy and gas consumption and will consequently decrease usage costs,” said Irma Kavtaradze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. She also mentioned the importance of introducing energy efficiency in industry and production areas, as well as transport “in order to assist the economic and energy security of Georgia and expenses for our citizens”.
“Georgia will be assisted by organizations of the corresponding profile on the project, who are ready to work with them to provide support in logistical and technical areas,” Mathernova said at last week’s meeting.
