Int’l Organization Students Visit Georgia’s Winemaking Kakheti
An eighteen-person group of masters students from the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) visited Kakheti, Georgia's eastern wine region, to learn about Georgian wine, culture, and modern wine-making.
During their visit, the foreign students visited Georgian wine companies, learnt Qvevri-making technology and tasted different Georgian wines. They also visited the museum of National Wine Agency in Tbilisi, where a presentation about Georgian wine culture was held.
The Head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili says that this is OIV's second visit to Georgia.
“The OIV, whose head office is in Paris, has a masters program and the students learn about the wine-making industries of various countries. Georgia has been in this program for two years now, and the representatives of the organization learn about wine-making and viticulture and its traditions, culture and uniqueness on the place,” he added.
The Georgia’s National Wine Agency reports that the students were most impressed by Qvevri wine-making technology.
The leader of the students’ group, Sandra Combat, said that the visit exceeded all the expectations.
“Georgian wine history, traditions, Qvevri wine, Georgian people's hospitality, culture and Georgian singing were especially interesting for us,” she added.
