Georgia’s Justice Ministry Launches Web Site against Violence
The Ministry of Justice of Georgia has initiated a campaign against violence – 'Imoqmede' and has launched a special web site imoqmede.ge for anyone who may be interested in becoming involved in the large-scale campaign or to get up to date information on its progress.
The aim of the web site is to inform society about the legal changes to 20 laws which were implemented to protect human rights.
The web page also gives information about what domestic violence is and how it can be stopped or prevented. It also contains violence statistics, news, videos, posters and the number of the domestic violence hotline.
Website visitors can easily join the campaign by pressing the button – 'I Join', after which they can ask any questions regarding the issue to the online advisor. They can also leave anonymous messages.
Furthermore, the Justice Ministry will also hold meetings in educational institutions and will organize training in its justice houses and community centers in all big cities, towns and villages until the end of 2017.
At present, around 200 people have already attended the training dates, and in total 2500 people will receive training by the campaign.
“Domestic violence is not a performance or film…The state cannot sit by idly and watch while it takes place,” Justice Minister Thea Tsulukiani said at the presentation of the campaign.
She added that the website facilitates involvement of society in the campaign against domestic violence.
