Fire Burns Forest in South-East Georgia
Intensive fire has burnt around 1,000 square meters of Arjevanidze forest near town Tsagveri, 20 km away from Borjomi in the South-Eastern Georgia, Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
The fire started on Wednesday, however, the fire brigades are still working there to extinguish minor hubs of fire.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but allegedly it broke out due to high temperature.
The Head of LEPL National Forestry Agency Tornike Gvazava stated that the mineralized strips have been made on the territory that prevents the spread of fire.
Samtskhe-Javakheti Governor, Akaki Machutidze says that all the services are mobilized in the region and there is no panic in the population.
The Emergency Management Agency reported there was no need for the evacuation of the local population as the forest is far away from the populated area.
The Agency reports that around 100 fire fighters were working at the site last night, in order to prevent the spread of fire.
“At the dawn, as soon as the visibility was good, the helicopter and rescuers of the Border Police resumed the working process. The proper works are being carried out to fully localize the fire,” the Agency representative stated.
