Excessive Noise Becomes Punishable in Georgia
From August 15 making an excessive noise during the day or at night has become punishable in Georgia.
The amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses were adopted by the parliament in June 2017.
The new edition of the Code defined that the day hours are from 08.00 am to 11.00pm and night hours are from 11.00 pm to 08.00 am.
If the law is violated, both physical and legal entities will be fined.
The amount of noise at day time at homes should not exceed 35 dB and 30 dB at night time.
The regulations were also imposed for café-bars, which are located near residential houses. In the cafe-bars, noise should not exceed 50 dB during the day and 40 dB at night.
According to the amendments, violation of norms of acoustic noise in residential buildings, private property, real estate and public institutions in the above-mentioned hours will result in a warning to the physical and legal person.
In case of repeated offense during one year from the warning, the offender person will be fined by 150 GEL and a legal entity will be fined with 500 GEL.
According to the same changes, at night time the use of pyrotechnics is prohibited and punishable.
From August 15 a physical person will be fined by 150 GEL for the use of pyrotechnics in the night time and the legal entity will be fined by 500 GEL.
In case of repeated offenses within one year persons will be fined by 300 GEL and legal entities will be fined by GEL 1,000.
Noise will not be prohibited during the New Year days, from 9 pm of 31st December to 11pm of January 2, also, from 9 pm of January 13th to 11pm of January 14th and on the occasion of the restoration of the independence of Georgia (9 April and 26 May).
The Patrol Police will execute the law. Police officers will visit the site and check the noise and if it exceeds the norm, the offenders will be fined.
