Nenskra HPP Project Public Hearings to Be Held in Chuberi and Nakra

Nenskra Hydropower Plant Project Company, JSC Nenskra Hydro, will hold yet another round of public hearings on the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report for the population of villages of Chuberi and Nakra, on 22-23 and 24 of August, respectively.

Public hearings will be held in a format of open house sessions: from 09:00 until 19:00, all stakeholders will have a possibility to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers from specialists in the following fields: land acquisition, health, safety and environment, dam safety, community investment program and employment of local population. Project personnel, as well as external specialists will be working on the place. 

The results of supplementary studies, on which the report is based, were disclosed in March 2017. The entire package of the documents is available online both in Georgian and English languages on the Project company’s website.

The report comprises of supplementary studies carried out in accordance to the high standards of the International Financial Institutions, such as EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), ADB (Asian Development Bank), EIB (European Investment Bank), KDB (Korean Development Bank), SACE (Italian Export Credit Agency) and AIIB (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank).

“We believe that we can implement Nenskra HPP Project successfully only if our work is based on the principles of full transparency and active engagement of the local population. The upcoming round of public hearings is intended for achieving exactly these two objectives”, - Chief Operating Officer Mr. Teimuraz Kopadze has noted.

JSC Nenskra Hydro is a project company that was established as a result of cooperation between Korea Water Resources Corporation K-Water and JSC Partnership Fund in 2015. The purpose of the company is the construction of Nenskra Hydropower Plant in Nenskra and Nakra rivers’ valleys in Mestia Municipality of Svaneti region. Nenskra HPP, installed capacity of which is 280 MW, will generate 1’200.00 GWh of electricity annually, which will be fully consumed by the local market. www.nenskrahydro.ge
