Two Fires Localized at Akhaltsikhe

Two fires that hit villages of Akhaltsikhe district Sviri and Korkhi have been put out. The fire in Korkhi was extinguished late on Monday. The fire destroyed 3 hectares of forest there.

The blaze in Sviri was only put out after the helicopter was involved in liquidation works on Tuesday Morning.

Georgia’s Interior Minister, Giorgi Mghebrishvili stated that although fire has been put out, the aviation still remains at the site to prevent re-eruption of new pockets.

“The fire has been localized and soil processing works have been launched,” the minister stated.

He added that around 100 firefighters and 170 servicemen of the Interior Ministry are involved in the anti-fire work in Sviri.

It is reported that fire could not expand in the coniferous forest and it also could not reach settled area of the village.
