Update: All Areas of Open Fire Extinguished in Abastumani

The major areas of fire in Abastumani have now been extinguished, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Mgebrishvili, Imedinews reports. The fire initially broke out in Abastumani forest, Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, on August 29.

a 300-meter-long path has been cleared, making it possible to get to all areas of fire pockets. 

“We can now say that all the open fire areas have been extinguished. Aviation and fire brigades are working very effectively, with helicopters given the exact coordinates where to pour the water. If weather conditions are good, we could localize the fire by the end of the day.” the Minister said, following information from www.imedinews.ge 

Work continued in Abastumani this morning, as planes from Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Ukraine were involved in the firefighting operation yesterday.
