Nenskra HPP Project Will Help Secure Georgia’s Energy

Natia Turnava, Deputy Head of the Partnership Fund at Nenskra HPP, has stated that the project will contribute to the security of Georgia's energy.

Turnava has said that this project is special because private investors are only entitled to temporary use, and after 35 years the hydro-power plant will be returned for use in the population of Georgia.

Nenskra HPP is a unique project which showcases the potential of Georgia's energy. Firstly, this is the largest project – over one billion euros, which has never been invested in such a large infrastructure project. Secondly, Nenskra HPP will contribute to securing Georgia's energy.

Currently, hydropower is supplied by one HPP only, Enguri HPP. Although still in relatively good condition, it is considerably out-doubted, and is partially located in Abkhazia, which is occupied territory. This creates certain risks. Projects such as Nenskra, Khudoni, Naamakhvani, and Oni will eliminate this risk. These are projects that have high dams and large reservoirs., which is at the request of the government", - noted Natia Turnava.
