European Union’s PSC Ambassadors Visit Georgia

The European Union’s Political and Security Committee (PSC) Ambassadors from 28 EU member state countries are on a two-day visit to Georgia. 

At a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia yesterday, the Vice Premier Mikheil Janelidze and Walter Stevens, Chairman of the PSC, underlined the importance of the visit to Georgia, stating that Georgia is a close partner of EU, and the visit of the PSC Ambassadors to the country is another clear example of the EU’s support to Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia stated.

“We’re paying a great deal of importance to this visit, as we know that Georgia is our closest partner in the region”, Walter Stevens stated according to the ministry. 

During a meeting with Mikheil Janelidze, Walter Stevens noted the positive dynamics of the Georgia-EU relationship, while he underlined the success Georgia has achieved in the process of implementing reforms. 

“I would like to highlight the considerable efforts Georgia has made in carrying out the reforms in all directions, as well as in the process of the Association Agreement implementation”, the Chairman of the PSC pointed out, adding that he’s delighted with the visa liberalization, for which a number of reforms have had to be implemented, in which Georgia carried out successfully. Walter Stevens also pointed out that as part of their visit, the ambassadors will get acquainted with the reforms carried out in the country, and with the current security issues. The ambassadors will also visit the occupation line and the EUMM mission in Georgia. 

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reports, Walter Stevens stated that it is crucial to stand by Georgia, defending its territorial unity and sovereignty, hence why the ambassadors are visiting the occupation line. 

Within the two-day visit, meetings with the President of Georgia, Prime Minister of Georgia, Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament, Minister of Defence of Georgia and the civil society members are planned.
