Defense Ministry Releases 70 Servicemen for Drug Consumption & Gambling
Around 70 servicemen were released in 2016-2017 from the Ministry of Defense of Georgia for consuming drugs and for gambling.
The Ministry reports that last year 43 people were revealed who consumed drugs and 36 among them lost their jobs.
As for the current year, 45 people were revealed and 33 of them were fired.
As for gambling, disciplinary violation protocol for violation was made against 15 persons, one of which was dismissed. In 2017 such protocols were made against 11 servicemen.
Due to suicide cases in 2015, control over gambling has been tightened in the Ministry of Defense.
Then minister Tina Khidasheli introduced a law which envisaged immediate dismissal of servicemen in case of gambling. The same law was activated against the servicemen who consume alcohol and drugs.
