Georgian & Estonian Presidents Visit Barbed Wire Fence at Occupation Line

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that the Russian artificial barriers at the occupation line, that divides Georgia and its breakaway South Ossetia, will be destroyed not by military force, but by the Georgian People’s hope for the future.

Margvelashvili made the statement at the occupation line village of Khurvaleti, while informing Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid on recent developments in the Georgian occupied territories.

“People are kidnapped here every day, we live in this environment; we build European Georgia in this environment; but these dreadful barriers will be demolished to the ground, like other artificial barriers have been destroyed in Europe. They will be destroyed not by military force, but by the strong democratic course of my country and open minds and the hopeful attitude of my people, living both in the occupied regions and territories under our control,” the Georgian president said.

President Kaljulaid said more attention should be paid to this conflict.

“Of course we continue making these points as strong as we can. But finally, are these people; the people who cannot have access to healthcare because there is a fence; people who cannot go and talk to their relatives because there is a fence,” she added.

Breakaway South Ossetia and another Russian-occupied region of Georgia – Abkhazia, were occupied after the Georgia-Russia August war 2008.
