Counter-Terrorism Unit Approach on Alleged Terrorists in Isani, Tbilisi
The Counter-Terrorism unit of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has started confronting the alleged terrorists, fortified in the residential building on St. Gabriel Salos street, Isani District, Tbilisi.
The SSS unit made the decision to use force on the suspects after they failed to reach any agreement with the alleged terrorists.
The Special Forces attempted to get into the apartment, but the suspects continue to resist.
As reported by the media, the suspects are throwing grenades from the windows.
The building is surrounded by the police and the situation is very tense at the scene.
The alleged terrorists have not been identified yet, but it is already known that they are not Georgian citizens.
The United States Ambassador to Georgia, Ian Kelly, has just commented on the incident, saying the safety of the residents is of utmost importance.
“We are carefully observing the developments and we hope maximum safety measures are taken,” he added.
Some time ago, one member of the Special Force Unit was wounded and has been transported to hospital in critical condition. Doctors say his health condition is grave, adding everything is being done to save his life.
