Georgia Declares November 27 Day of Mourning

The Government of Georgia has declared November 27 as a Day of Mourning to grieve for the victims of the November 24 tragedy at the Leo Grand Hotel in Batumi.

To honor the memory of the victims, on the Day of Mourning, national flags will be lowered throughout the country.

An extensive fire killed 12 people and injured dozens in Leo Grand Hotel, Georgia’s Black Sea city Batumi on November 24. Among the victims, 10 are said to be Georgian.

As reported by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the emergency services were notified of the blaze at 20:01 on Friday.

An investigation was launched under article 243 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which means a breach of fire and safety norms.
