President of Georgia Meets SRCIC Secretary General
Issues relating to Georgia’s transit potential, legislative and institutional reforms implemented by the Georgian government, open market policy, and the aspects of support of fair competition and intellectual property protection were items discussed while the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, met with Mr. Li Zhonghang, SRCIC Secretary General, on November 29; with the SRCIC delegation arriving in Georgia for the Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum.
During the meeting, the President of Georgia said that the country’s economic policy is oriented towards free, fair and sustainable development, while the reforms that were carried out ensured an attractive investment environment for the country.
As Margvelashvili emphasized, the strategic Geographic location of Georgia, simplified tax system, customs administration, corruption–free environment and free trade regimes with China, the EU, EFTA and the US, increases the draw to the country and its investment potential.
The President considers Georgia’s priority within foreign policy to be trade liberalization and the integration with the world's leading markets, as stated in the news release following the meeting.
According to the information from Giorgi Abashishvili, Head of Administration of the President, the discussion focused on Georgia’s transit potential within the Silk Road.
Tengiz Pkhaladze, advisor to the President in foreign affairs, and Nino Chikovani, President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also attended the meeting.
