Popular Video Game Civilization Has New Character – Georgia’s Queen Tamar

Georgia will be a new playable civilization included in the popular video game Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, coming out on February 8th. As with all Civs (civilizations), Georgia will have a unique unit, structure, and abilities.

The civilization's leader is Queen Tamar, who ruled Georgia in the late 12th and early 13th centuries.

In the game, she has the Glory of the World, Kingdom, and Faith ability, which allows her to declare a Protectorate War after the Theology Civic is attained. Troops gain bonus Faith after such a war is declared, and the entire civilization gains bonuses as they spread the religion. Finally, Envoys sent to a city-state of the majority religion have double the effect.

Georgia's unique ability is Strength in Unity whereby the player receives an additional bonus when transitioning into a Golden Age. Naturally, this means Georgia is better placed to achieve and, crucially, maintain Golden Ages over rival civs.

The game shows the warriors from Georgia’s Khevsureti territory, who maintained their traditions for countless generations. These fierce Georgians dressed in chainmail and carried swords, axes, and small, black bucklers adorned with crosses for nighttime raids—due to the shield’s color, the warriors were practically invisible in the moonlight.

The warriors’ unique building, meanwhile, is called the Tsikhe, which is a replacement for Renaissance Walls. It raises outer defense levels, grants Faith, and has a lower production cost than the walls.
