Cable Cars Temporarily Closed in Tbilisi Due to Strong Wind

Due to the heavy wind that hit Tbilisi yesterday night, cable cars from Chavchavadze Avenue to Turtle Lake (KusTba) and from Rike Park to Narikala Fortress will not be operating today as a safety measure. The wind that started yesterday night brought down several trees across the city, bringing down roofs of houses and damaging electric lines. Trees were down on the pedestrian area of Jvania square and Guramishvili Avenue. Two flights were postponed from Tbilisi airport, to Munich and Istanbul.

The strong wind also caused electricity shortages across the capital and the Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions of Georgia. As Georgian media reports, according to weather forecasts, the wind is expected to slow down by tomorrow morning, January 11th.

Due to low visibility and snow storms, transport movement is limited on the Gudauri-Kobi road.
