Georgian Military to Use Javelin Missiles
The Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria has said that the Georgian Military has completed the first stage of purchasing the Javelin anti-armor missiles, which have now been stored in “a safe place.”
Defense Minister Levan Izoria spoke with the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia after the meeting on Tuesday, noting that the Georgian soldiers will undertake special training in the coming months to learn the necessary skills for operating such weapons.
The U.S. Department of State made the decision to approve the sale of the missiles to Georgia back in November 2017, estimating it to cost around $75 million. The Georgian Defense Minister said that the transaction would happen in two stages.
Javelin is refered to as the most lethal one-man-portable anti-armor weapon system in the world by its U.S.-based producer - Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture. It is widely used by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.
