Sopo Khorguani: Treatment Instead of Punishment for Drug Addiction

Lawyer and human right defender Sopo Khorguani believes that drug-dependency is an illness, and should be treated as such, saying that individuals who are dependent on drugs are indeed ill and should be offered treatment instead of punishment.

Khorguani shared her thought on the matter on her personal Facebook page, in the hope that drug-use in general will be decriminalized in Georgia.

"I have been asking for the decriminalization of drugs for years, and I still support it - I think drug addiction is an illness and as such, addicts should be offered treatment and not punishment, this way, I think we have a better means of defeating drug addiction” she says.
