Winter Ski Resort Gudauri Turns Into Summer Destination
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, together with the Georgian National Tourism Administration and the Slovenian Company “Alliance” have started construction on bike trails to help the development of summer tourism on the ski resorts.
This is the first cycling trail which will fully meet international standards. The trails will not only attract more tourists but will also allow the Gudauri and Bakuriani to function as four season resorts, the first of their kind in Georgia.
On August 9th the cycling trail will open and, on that day, will be free for everyone who wants to try. After that the daily price will be 10 Lari for a return trip (5 Lari one way.)
“Downhill” cycling is a sport that isn’t popular in Georgia at the moment. The sport had its first competition in 1976 in California and became popular with American teenagers. It has since become popular in Europe, Austria, Canada and many others. It is exciting to see it developing in Georgia now.
From August 9th the Gudauri trails will open and they recommend you bring the specialist equipment with you. The 4790m trail does not cross the established ski trail but people are being told to move on it safely to avoid injury.
