Motorcyclists Touring to Support Disabled Children in Georgia
After traversing nine countries a group of bikers are ready to arrive in Tbilisi to finish their two-week long charity tour to support children with disabilities in Georgia.
The 14-day charity tour, Ride4DeKidz, which began in the Netherlands, is expected to arrive in Tbilisi tomorrow (August 11th.)
Three friends, Marcin from the Netherlands, Bogdan from Poland and Mirec from Slovakia have been sharing a passion for motorcycles and adventure, uniting around the idea of travelling by motorcycle from Central Europe to the Caucasus. Their goal was to pass through nine countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey, arriving in Georgia as the last destination on the tour.
The adventure-loving friends wanted to get acquainted with various cultures and traditions on their journey – and to see first-hand how different people lived and the needs of their children.
After completing the charity tour the men will donate their motorcycles to the First Step Georgia in Tbilisi. The organisation, funded by Jane Corboy, wife of the first EU ambassador to Georgia, and Nino Kadagidze-Khvania, wife of the late Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, will use these gifts to help their work to address the needs of disabled children in the country.
“Their Honda motorcycles are hardy bikes, distinguished for their durability and resistance—perfectly suited to the Georgian terrain,” press release issued by the First Step said.
The Long Way Round, an adventurous project created by actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman who travelled around the world, was the inspiration for the three friends. Although one, Mirec, could not complete the trip, Marcin and Bogdan continued, crossing borders, highways and mountains to reach their goal.
