Georgia Saddened by Deadly Iran Plane Crash

Georgian President Giorgi Kvirikashvili, and other officials have offered their condolences to the Government of Iran and the Iranian people over the deadly plane crash that occurred on February 18 and left 66 dead.

Sixty passengers, two security guards, two flight attendants and the pilot and co-pilot were on board.

PM Kvirikashvili said Georgia stands next to Iran during this hard time.

Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia, took to Facebook to express his sorrow over the tragic incident.

“On behalf of me and Georgian people I offer my condolences to the families of the victims, the Iranian Government and Iranian people,” the President stated.

The Iranian plane crashed after just one month of service on Sunday, in the mountainous region of southern Iran, and as reported all 66 passengers are believed to be dead.

The ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flights, went down near its destination of the southern city of Yasuj, 485 miles south of the capital, Tehran, where it took off. Fog and heavy snow, has hampered rescue efforts.
