Infrastructure Ministry Launches Rehabilitation of Zugdidi Botanical Garden
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Georgia has launched rehabilitation work of the botanical garden in Georgia’s western city Zugdidi, Samegrelo Region.
According to the Ministry, the project is funded by the World Bank and its total cost amounts to 12 million GEL.
The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Zurab Alavidze, attended the first day of the rehabilitation works, along with representatives from the local authorities.
“I am glad that we have already made a significant step forward in these works. Zugdidi will have a renovated Botanical Garden with modern infrastructure,” he said, adding the project is important not only for locals, but also for the whole country.
Alavidze explained that the implementation of the project is important to further highlight the tourist potential of the regions, adding it will have a positive influence on locals as it will create additional incentives for attracting investment to the region.
He thanked all the people who take care of the rare plants protected at the Botanical Garden.
“I would like to wish success to all who have made a contribution in the successful implementation of this important project,” Alavidze stated.
The Ministry reports that the project covers the rehabilitation of the buildings within the Garden territory, construction of a water supply system, water supply of the existing artificial lake and headwork. Walking paths will also be arranged. Boxes for cashier’s office and the security guards will be built at the entrance.
The rehabilitation works are expected to be finish in June, 2019. The works will be carried out by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.
