Gia Maisashvili, Ex Presidential Candidate Dies

Politician Gia Maisashvili has died at the age of 56. His last wish, which was unrealized, was to die in his homeland. He was the founder of the 'School of Leaders'.

"Gia is no more ... Georgia has lost a great patriot. We could not fulfil his last desire to die in Georgia," – said a message on Maisashvili’s Facebook page.

Last week, the Leader of the Free Georgia party, Kakha Kukava, wrote that Maisashvili asked him to transfer him from the US to Georgia - his last wish.

This would’ve cost $160,000 US. Kukava appealed to Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili with a request to allocate the necessary amount from the reserve fund.

Over the last two years, the Politician and Founder of the "School of Leaders" fought with brain cancer. In recent years, he lived in the United States.

Maisashvili was an economist by profession. In 1993, he completed a special course in Public Policy and Economic Development at Stanford University. In 1997, he graduated from the government school of Harvard University.

In 2003, Maisashvili returned to his homeland and became an economic adviser at the time of Saakashvili being the Leader of the United National Movement.

During the 2008 Presidential elections, he was one of the candidates for the post of Head of State from the political association "Party of the Future".
