Fine for Non-Serious Offenses to be Increased

The fine for non-serious offences is to be increased, the Ministry of Internal Affairs accounced yesterday.

The move was instigated by recent figures which showed an increase in the number of fines issued for non-serious offenses.

According to the new law, the fine for crimes such as anti-social behavior, abuse of public places, insulting citizens, and other similar acts that violate public order will result in a penalty of 500 GEL to 1000 GEL, (previously 100GEL.)

The relevant amendments are included in the Code of Administrative Offenses, authored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Furthermore, if the fine is deemed too severe, the offender may be imprisoned for 15 days instead. Additionally, the person will have a criminal record for three years.
