Georgia Ranked 128th in World Happiness Report 2018

The World Happiness Report 2018, an annual publication of United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network that contains rankings of national happiness and analysis of the data from various perspectives, has ranked Georgia 128th.

As for the Georgia’s neighboring states, Armenia was ranked 129th, while Russia ranked 59th, Azerbaijan 87th and Turkey 74th.

The World Happiness Report 2018, ranks 156 countries by their happiness levels, and 117 countries by the happiness of their immigrants.

The overall rankings of country happiness are based on the pooled results from Gallup World Poll surveys from 2015-2017, and show both change and stability.

This year there is a new top ranking country, Finland, but the top ten positions are held by the same countries as in the last two years, although with some swapping of places. Four different countries have held the top spot in the four most recent reports- Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and now, Finland.

All of the top countries tend to have high values for all six of the key variables that have been found to support well-being: income, health, life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust and generosity. Among the top countries, differences are small enough that year-to-year changes in the rankings are to be expected.

Burundi in east Africa, scarred by bouts of ethnic cleansing, civil wars and coup attempts, is the unhappiest place in the world. Strikingly, there are five other nations – Rwanda, Yemen, Tanzania, South Sudan and the Central African Republic – which report happiness levels below that of even Syria.

According to the survey, the top 10 happiest countries, 2018 are:

1. Finland 2. Norway 3. Denmark 4. Iceland 5. Switzerland 6. Netherlands7. Canada 8. New Zealand 9. Sweden 10. Australia.

Meanwhile, the 10 unhappiest countries, 2018 are: 147- Malawi, 148- Haiti, 149- Liberia, 150- Syria, 151- Rwanda, 152- Yemen, 153- Tanzania, 154- South Sudan, 155- Central African Republic, 156- Burundi
