Georgia Marks Late War Hero's 31st Birthday

Georgian national hero, the late Giorgi Antsukhelidze, is being remembered today by Georgian soldiers and politicians on what would have been his 31st birthday.

Antsukhelidze was fighting in the Russo-Georgian war of August 2008, where after being arrested by Russian occupants, the then 24-year-old Georgian soldier was tortured and killed.

Essentially, the Georgian hero sacrificed his life for Georgia’s dignity, safety and freedom. Georgian people, especially those in the military, believe that Antsukhelidze was a proud example of heroism who stood for the country's values.

Antsukhelidze was tortured and killed on August 9, 2008 in Tskhinvali region by Russian Occupation forces.
